Tiji Festival 2015

Tiji Festival will start from 06 may 2015 to 23 May 2015

Tiji is a celebration and reaffirmation of this myth. Throughout the festival the events and story of the myth are re-enacted. The festival is timed to coincide with the end of the dry season (late winter/spring) and ushers in the wetter monsoon season. Tiji comes from the words "ten che" meaning "the hope of Buddha Dharma prevailing in all worlds" and is a spring renewal festival that also celebrates the triumph of good over evil. In 1964 Michel Peissel was the first westerner to observe the Tiji festival. At this time, the Mustang region was still completely closed off to foreigners and he had to obtain special permission from the government of Nepal in order to enter the region. Despite his arrival on the last day of the celebration the experience left a lasting impression on him. "The scenes I witnessed were so extraordinary and so unexpected that I dared not believe my eyes and even today I have some trouble in believing in the reality of what I saw that day."

Tiji Festival is celebrating at Lo - Manthag Popular Tiji Festival Trek is celebrating year of 2015 month of May.  Lama dances of the grade practice of the Sabdun Phurba are performed. When the ministers of the king Uddayan try to burn Guru Rinpoche and his consort alive he transform the flames of the pyre in to a lake. The form he assumed when he emerged in the centre of a lotus with mandrava is known as Guru Pema Dorje Tsal-the Guru with lotus and Vajra. Thousands of men, women and children participate in this annual elaborate re-enactment of the Tiji myth. It will be our unique privilege to witness the same color, costume, dancing and ritual that were displayed by these people in this place more than six hundred years ago according to the religious mythology.

Most Monasteries in Upper Mustang belong to the Ngor Subsect of Sakya Buddhism. These living monasteries some of which are attached to caves, harbor great treasures of Religious art. Unfortunately occasional thefts have occurred in places, and there is a general lack of finance to undertake necessary renovations.  Traditionally, monasteries are maintained by the people of associated villages, whose unmarried sons and daughters are in return accepted into the religious community. But presently there is only one monastic School in Upper Mustang. The great Compassion Sakyapa Monastic School, Lo-Manthang , was newly founded in 1994. Here supported by the American Himalayan Foundation through Annapurna conservation Area Project about 64 youngs monkes study Buddhist teachings and rites, as well as nontraditional subjects like Science and English.

Great Himalaya Trail

Stretching 4500kms across the world’s tallest mountain ranges and isolated Himalayan mountain communities makes The Great Himalaya Trail (GHT) the longest and highest alpine walking trail in the world. GHT is a network of existing treks and trails offering an incredible diversity in terms of landscapes, flora & fauna, people and culture. The 1700km Nepal section of the GHT traverse the country from east to west and can be a completed by trekking continuously for 157 days. The trail begins near Kanchenjunga on the eastern border and heads west navigating eight of the world’s 8000m peaks, from Makalu to Everest. The trail ends in Humla on the Tibetan border.

Trekking along Nepal’s section of GHT and spending money on food, accommodation or services such as guides, porters and cooks will make a direct difference to communities in these areas. The trail promises incredible places, people & culture- a unique experience altogether. Due to time constraints, man won’t be able to attempt the whole route. So it is broken up into sections and short treks along the trail. Completing a section of the GHT, Nepal trail, will get you a GHT achievement certificate. The following treks interlink to make the Great Himalayan Trail, Nepal.

    Kanchenjunga Trek
Makalu - Sherpani Col / 3 Cols Adventure Trek
    Everest High Valleys Trek
Langtang Trek - Trek to the Sacred Lakes
Manaslu & Annapurna (Manaslu Circuit Trek)
Upper Dolpo & Shey Gompa Trek
    Jumla - Rara Lake Trek
    Tsum Valley Trek

The Great Himalaya Trail is one of the highest and longest trails in the planet. It runs from the east of Nepal to the Far West, and is about 1700 miles. It consists of two trails, a lower one and a higher one. The lower trail is suitable for softer adventure while the higher route is an expedition route in most of the segments.

The Trail is divided into 10 segments, each fitting into one another. The idea is not to get people to do this mammoth three month journey (not many would have the time or the money nor the motivation), but do parts of the trail, and come repeatedly to fill in the jigsaw.

Some of the soft adventure trips that we offer that go into the Trail are presented below. Remember, these are not the only trips possible, so if you have ideas, talk to us!

Kathmandu Valley Cultural Trekking

Kathmandu Valley Cultural Trekking

The Kathmandu Valley Cultural TrekkingTrail is the perfect short trek for those who do not have the time to venture further into the Himalayas. Pack light and head into the forest hills surrounding the valley rim for this culturally rich trek. Kathmandu Valley Cultural Trek displays the best of Nepal’s rural culture, biodiversity and stunning Himalayan views that can be enjoyed with simple preparation and minimal equipment. Kathmandu Valley Cultural Trek begins from Sundarijal, the entrance to Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park, a watershed only 30 minutes drive from the centre of Kathmandu. Along the way you will be treated to pristine wilderness and diverse ethnic groups living in the unspoiled rural areas, encompassing Nepal’s most popular hill stations: Chisapani, Nagarkot, and Dhulikhel, where various categories of lodges and hotels are available.

The trail is a moderate no fuss trek, with distances lasting six to seven hours each day on mainly undulating terrain with a few long climbs. This is a low altitude trek which does not elevate to more than 2,500m and therefore should not create any problems with altitude related illnesses. You will need a good level of fitness and stamina to complete the full distance. The daily treks can be easily done in individual parts, a day or two at a time with the section(s) of your choice, or as a five day trek. The KVCTT trek can be attempted with or without a guide, as all you need is the itinerary and a good map. However, if you do not want to trek alone you can arrange for a guide or a trekking package from one of Kathmandu’s many registered trekking agencies. The rich tapestry of the cultural heritage of Nepal is synthesized in the Kathmandu valley as well as further closest religious and cultural destination. The ancient cities of the valley – Kathmandu, Patan, Bhaktapur, Kirtipur, Chovar and Dakshinkali represent an epitome of harmony in urban design, elegant architecture and refined culture. The three main historic cities of Kathmandu, Patan and Bhaktapur with numerous, old palaces and place squares, shrines and temples, angles traditions and legends make it a veritable living museum. The Kathmandu valley boasts seven World Heritage Sites UNESCO within a radius of just 20km.

Annapurna Trekking

Annapurna Base Camp Trek
Annapurna Base Camp Trek
"Nepal Visitors is a Small group adventure travel which has pioneered responsible tourism practises in Nepal".

A great Himalayan range of Annapurna (8091m.) lies In the western part of Nepal. Southern flank gets the highest precipitation of rainfalls, making the land very fertile and inhabitant by different ethnic groups. The Southern flank of Annapurna is the most popular trekking route, which passes through several beautiful villages and spectacular view points, leading to North of Modi Khola valley and up the canyon between Hiunchuli and Machhapuchhare. The inhabitants of this area are mostly the Gurungs, one of the ethnic groups. Our adventure trip to the Annapurna Sanctuary begins from Pokhara, a scenic spot. Our trek combines with the spectacular mountain scenery with incredible ethnic and cultural diversity and traverses through very strange locales. The Gurung villages en route are particularly colorful and absolutely you can expect to meet strange but friendly and welcoming ethnic people.

Nepal’s most popular trek begins at the lakeside town of Pokhara and leads six or seven days north-west around the Annapurna Massif, through dramatic changes in landscape, climate and culture to the high village of Jomsom, near the isolated land of Mustang. Trekkers often continue on to the sacred shrine of Muktinath, near the 5,415?meter Thorang-La pass and down into the lovcted by the Annapurna Conservation Area Project, tucked beneath the southern slopes of the Annapurna Massif. Annapurna Base camp trek is an easy trek from Pokhara and takes one through some of Nepal’s most lovely rhododendron forests to the Annapurna base camp. There are also numerous one or two day treks out of Pokhara town, where one can have views of Dhaulagiri, the Annapurna range, Manaslu and Ganesh Himal.

Annapurna Trekking is very popular trekking area in Nepal. A very commonly heard name is the ‘Around Annapurna Trek’ and based on sheer numbers of trekkers visiting, this is certainly the most popular. As the name suggests, the centre piece of this part of Nepal is the range of mountains that includes Annapurna I, the first of the 8000m peaks to be climbed. Also included in this region is another 8000m giant, Dhaulagiri, which is located west of Annapurna I. Between these two mountains lies the valley of the Kali-Gandaki River, the deepest gorge in the world. Views of lush, fertile farmland and stands of undisturbed natural forest, snow covered mountains and encounters with a mixture of many ethnic communities all add up to a diverse range of experiences that makes this area one of the most satisfying trekking destinations in Nepal.

The Annapurna Trekking of Nepal is a land so gorgeous, it’s long been the ultimate dream for adventurers from all over the world.  Here, the sacred peaks of Annapurna, Machapuchare and Dhaulagiri, shining with snow year round, tower over ancient rhododendron forests, icy rivers, and temperate jungles where tigers still roam. Annapurna region Trekking passes through some of the most spectacular scenery in the country, with deep valleys and close up views of mountains over 26,000ft (8,000m) tall, ancient stone settlements, Tibetan culture, and Buddhist temples and monasteries. Excellent lodges line the main routes of the legendary Annapurna Circuit which is one of the most exceptional trekking routes on earth, crossing Thorong-La pass at 17,769ft (5,416m). Easily accessible via a short flight from Pokhara or Kathmandu, Jomson, a town along the Annapurna Circuit, is situated between two gigantic mountains in the Kali Gandaki Valley, at the bottom of the world’s deepest gorge. From Jomsom there are options to go in either direction along the Circuit – the trail to the holy shrine at Muktinath is very popular and follows the ancient trade and pilgrimage route across the Himalayas.

The fact that the Annapurna chain of mountains lies inland causes a large chunk of land to fall in the rain shadow area. Hence these parts are considerably drier than the southern slopes of the mountains. This leads to unusually diverse landscapes and the possibility of trekking during the monsoon.

Mera Peak Climbing

Mera Peak is one of the most alluring trekking peaks in Nepal as it involves a culturally stimulating journey through picturesque villages and forests – followed by a gentle climb to the 6476m/21,246 ft Summit. Mera Peak is perhaps best known because it is Nepal’s highest trekking peak, any peak above this height is considered a full expedition peak with its associated higher permit cost. The Mera climb comes at the end of a two weeks long trekking and acclimatization program followed by a climbing program designed to give you the best possible chance of success. So far we have had 99% success rate in all of our Mera Peak expedition. The trip initiates in Kathmandu where we make last minute preparations and enjoy the cultural diversity of this ancient city before embarking on a short drive to Jiri and enter the Hinku from the south via Pangkongma to Khumbu valley and entranceway to Mt Everest. This trip offers highlights of non-technical climbing at moderate to high altitude, and even though it is not technically difficult, the climb incorporates a lot of the components of the higher expedition peaks. In addition to the climbing the expedition offers stunning Himalayan views and exciting Nepalese cultural experiences. Mera peak climbing is getting more and more popular each year due to the extraordinary mountain scenery it offers and also because if you are fit and have true enthusiasm for adventure, previous mountaineering experience is not required. This is the highest peak allowed for climbing in Nepal but also the one not demanding technical climbing. Being such a high mountain, the climb is of course a strenuous one, but the slopes rarely exceed 30 degree and hence it is technically straightforward.

The incredible monastery at Thyangboche is a photographer's paradise, set against the backdrop of Ama Dablam, Everest and other huge, snowcapped peaks. With time for acclimatisation en route, our goal is Everest Base Camp on the Khumbu Glacier and the opportunity to climb Kala Pattar (5545m) for a breathtaking view of the highest mountain on earth.

Our friendly guides and trip leaders are experts at leading interesting groups of men and women throughout Nepal. In addition, they have an intimate knowledge of the Sherpa people and customs and temples and shrines in each picturesque village you stroll through. We must also give credit to our polite and highly experienced, hard-working trekking sherpas, cooking, and office staff

Everest Base Camp trek is one of the most amazing adventures in the world and has become a Mecca for adventure travel enthusiasts. Just imagine standing at the point where so many expeditions have left on their way to the summit of the highest mountain in the world. The trek ventures deep into the Himalayas with amazing views of many of the world's highest and most beautiful mountains. Not only can you enjoy the breathtaking views across the Khumbu icefall, but you can experience all the amazing landscapes and culture that Nepal has to offer too. A trip to Everest Base Camp is a real adventure taking you from the bustling Nepalese capital of Kathmandu, via a small aircraft, to Lukla and the start of the trek up the Khumbu Valley. The trek passes through many Sherpa villages, including the famous trading centre of Namche Bazar, as well as visiting Buddhist monasteries along the way.

The Everest Base Camp trek is arguably the most famous trekking route in the world and this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see some of the most breathtaking scenery imaginable. Nepal is a fascinating country and the trek gives an insight into the lives and culture of the Sherpa people. Our ascent is steady and well paced to best suit the acclimatisation needed. Sunrise on the snow capped peaks above the Khumbu Glacier is an unforgettable sight from the summit of Kala Pattar. Everest Base Camp Trekking is one of the world’s classic treks, taking you through picturesque and welcoming Sherpa villages, past ancient Buddhist monasteries, glaciers, dramatic cliffs and valleys until finally you reach your destination and marvel at the awe-inspiring scale of the Everest massif. It is suitable for fit people who are used to walking in the Irish hills and is a good first trek in Nepal.

Everest Base Camp Itinerary

Day 01: Arrive London to o Kathmandu
You will be met by Nepal Visitors representative at the airport and transferred to the hotel.

Day 3: Fly Kathmandu to Lukla (9184ft/2800m) and trek to Phakding
On day three your adventure really begins, an early flight by small aircraft takes you to Lukla, the gateway to the Khumbu mountain range. Enjoy the exciting flight with a glimpse of Everest in the distance. After landing in Lukla you will meet your trek guides and porters and set off for your first night's stop at Phakding. Phakding is a small trading village sat on the banks of the Dudh Kosi River and there are a number of lodges where you will spend the night.

Day 4: Trek to Namche Bazaar (11,283ft/3440m)
Food on the trek is mostly vegetarian and so after a breakfast of cereal, bread, eggs and tea or coffee, it's time to set off and follow the banks of the Dudh Kosi River. You will cross the Dudh Kosi twice by small suspension bridges before reaching the village of Monjo and entering into the Khumbu National Park. After crossing another suspension bridge the trek then climbs steeply for about two hours up 'Namche Hill' to reach Namche Bazaar at 3,400m. Namche Bazaar is a famous and prosperous trading town and is also the capital of the Khumbu region. The market is a fascinating spectacle with many traders crossing the border from nearby Tibet to trade their wares.

Day 5: At leisure in Namche Bazaar (11,283ft/3440m)
Day five is spent resting in Namche at 3,400m to allow your body to become acclimatised to the high altitude and thinner oxygen. A great option is to walk to and have lunch at the Everest View Hotel at 3,900m and then return to Namche.

Day 06: Trek to Tengboche - (12,684ft/3867m) (B)
The trail leads past the large sherpa settlement of Khumjung and then descends deep into the Dudh Kosi Valley at Pungki Thanka. The trail then ascends the right flank of the Dudh Kosi valley to Tengboche, home to the famous Tengboche Monastery, spiritual center of the Khumbu. The climb is long yet compensated by views of Mt. Amadablam and on clear days you can get the views of Mt. Everest and its surrounding peaks. Amadablam means "Mother's Charm Box" and is named after the little box that Sherpa women wear around their necks. It is also one of the most beautiful mountains in the Himalaya. Overnight at Lodge

Day 7: Trek to Dingboche (14,465ft/4410m)
After breakfast the day's walking starts with an exciting river crossing via the high suspension bridge outside Deboche. A further one hour trekking leads to Pangboche, home of the famous Sherpas and also awesome views of Ama Dablam. A few hours later and you arrive at the charming farming village of Dingboche at 4,410m where you sleep in the lodges.

Day 08: Trek to Chhukung (15,518ft/4730m) & back to Dingboche (14,465ft/4410m).
Today you will trek to Chhukung. The view from Chhukung and further up the valley on the moraines towards Island Peak is tremendous. To the south-west, the eastern face of Amadablam provides an unusual view of this picturesque peak. This short trek is one of the highlights of the trek. It is a fast trip back down the valley to Dingboche for the night. Overnight at Lodge.

Day 09: Trek to Lobuje (16,170ft/4930m)
After breakfast you follow the trail from Dugla as it climbs steeply up beside the glacier moraine. After a few hours the trail leads to the small cluster of tea houses situated at Lobuje at 4,940m. Here the afternoon is spent relaxing and continuing the process of slow acclimatisation.

Day 10: Climb to Kala Patthar ((18,187ft/5545m) and back to Gorakshep (16929ft/5160m) (B)
This morning, you can hike up the Kala Patthar for unobstructed views of Mt.Everest and its surrounding peaks. Most of the famous photographs of Everest were taken from atop this "bump" on the landscape. In the afternoon, retrace your steps to Gorakshep. Overnight at Lodge.

Day 11: Trek to Everest Base Camp and trek back Pheriche (13,907ft/4240m)
Leaving Gorak Shep the trail leads on to the rock and ice of the Khumbu Glacier for the three-hour trek to Everest Base Camp at the foot of the Khumbu Icefall. You might even be lucky enough to meet teams making an ascent of the mountain. Some expedition teams have spent up to two months at base camp waiting for the right weather conditions to climb the mountain but luckily you will return to Gorak Shep after a lunch prepared by your Sherpa porter team. From Gorak Shep it’s time to start your descent back off the mountain. The route returns to Lobuje and then a quick lunch break of salad, potatoes and fruit in Dugla before arriving at Pheriche to sleep overnight in the lodges.

Day 12: Trek to Kyangjuma 3,550m
The descent continues down the scenic valley passing through Pangboche and re-passing the monastery at Thyangboche before a steep descent of 1500ft/500m to the Dudh Kosi and then to Kyangjuma at 3,550m to spend the night.

Day 13: Trek to Monjo 2,835m
Each morning you feel fitter and stronger after descending to lower altitudes and thicker oxygen. Leaving Kyangjuma the trail crosses a suspension bridge before climbing the opposite side of the valley to reach Namche Bazaar. A steep 600m descent from Namche leads to another suspension bridge to re-cross the Dudh Kosi River to reach the small village of Monjo at 2,835m.

Day 14: Trek to Lukla
From Monjo the trail flattens out, crossing the Dudh Kosi River twice more before climbing a gentle hill to reach Lukla. You have time to stop and relax at the numerous tea houses that now appear on the trail.

Climate:

There are two times of year when conditions are most favourable for a trek to Everest Base Camp, either in the pre-monsoon springtime or the post monsoon autumn. Although, it is possible to join Treks that run almost all year round. The weather you will experience on Everest is extreme and rather unpredictable so it is best to be prepared for all eventualities. Spring is the high season for trekking, but warmer weather can mean there is a larger cloud cover, which obscures many of the fantastic views that are part of this once in a lifetime trek. For those willing to brave the colder temperatures of autumn and winter this is not such a problem.

A large problem on Everest is that as you reach higher altitudes the oxygen content of the air dramatically decreases. At 20,000ft there is only half as much oxygen in the air as you are used to and by the summit oxygen is reduced to only a 1/3.
